Why would you want to secure social media? Isn’t the point of social media to be open, trusting and free? Sure! But that’s also part of the problem.
What is social media?
Social media is online content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube and even Wikis are all great examples of social media. Other sub categories of social media include social networking, blogging, micro-blogging and more.
We have found a huge lack of accurate information around security issues and awareness of social media. This website aims to help educate users of social media of the threats, risks and privacy concerns that go with using them.
The other goal of this site is to expose issues and vulnerabilities to drive the social media industry to create solutions to these problems.
What type of content is available?
You will find some great material in the links at the top of the page. Everything from guides you can download, presentations, videos and more. Some of these materials are not yet available, but are a work in progress. We have consolidated blog posts by some of the top security researchers in the area of social media security. All of these posts are aggregated (with permission) from the original authors in one central place for easy searching. For more details on specific security research we encourage you to “dig deeper” on the authors own website. Finally, we have a podcast about news in the social media security world that you can download (RSS, iTunes).
